The San Diego Derby Dolls will say goodbye to the 2009 season and hello to the holidays by hosting the Silicon Valley Roller Girls on Saturday Dec. 12 for a seasonal smashing of holiday roller derby action at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.
Each league is combining girls from two separate teams to make up the roster for this game. SDDD is bringing together their two home-B teams, the Hard Corps and the Diego Rollers, to create the Hard Rollers. SVRG is blending their travel-A team, the Dot.Kamikazes, with their travel-B team, the Killabytes.
Both leagues have a handful of wins this year, some against the same teams. They both beat the Santa Cruz Derby Girls’ Boardwalk Bombshells and Humboldt Roller Derby’s Redwood Rollers. SVRG barely beat Santa Cruz in June with a final score of 122-108. SDDD had a more concrete win over Santa Cruz in September with a final score of 133-103.
It was just last month in November that both teams played Humboldt, ironically in back to back to weekends. SVRG dominated Humboldt by almost 100 points Nov. 14 with a final score of 159-63. The very next weekend SDDD also took a win from Humboldt, but with a much narrower point spread of 102-71.
They also both played B.ay A.rea D.erby G.irls this year. SVRG had a sound win of 127-65 against Bay Area in May, but SDDD lost 140-67 to Bay Area in August.
Even though SVRG’s Dot.Kamikazes lost only two of their nine games in 2009, Death by Dollface admitted that SVRG is “expecting the game to be a challenge.”
Dollface went on to say that “this will be the first game against this caliber of players for many of our skaters,” referring to the fact that half the roster for SVRG will consist of players from their B team, the Killabytes.
SDDD is continuing to accept new and unwrapped toys for their Rady’s Children’s Hospital Toy Drive and will have a collection bin at this game. It is their goal to collect at least 250 toys – one for each child in the hospital. To say thank you, SDDD will give you a raffle ticket for your toy donation. Please do not bring violent themed toys, such as toy guns.
Tickets are now available to purchase; General admission tickets are $13; VIP tickets are $20. There is also a party bus that brings fan to and from the game via the Blue Foot Bar at 3404 30th St. San Diego, CA; General admission tickets on the bus are $25; VIP tickets on the bus are $35. The doors open at 6:00 p.m. and the game starts at 7:00p.m. The Del Mar Fairgrounds is located at 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd., Del Mar, CA. This is an all ages event with a full bar for 21 and up with ID. Please note that cash is needed for vendors, concessions, and Del Mar parking fees.
