San Diego Derby Dolls Lead the Way

September 25, 2011 - We woke up at 5:30 in the morning after a late-night celebration for The Swarm's victory over LA's Tough Cookies! It was for a great cause: The Girl Scouts of America. How can we say no to our future Derby Dolls when asked to lead the first mile in their New Day 5K & 1-Mile Run/Walk event at Mission Bay Park.
“We were all on a half a night’s sleep after the bout the night before, but our dedication to children is what dragged us out of bed and into our skates to lead the way,” On-Ya said. “We also wanted to promote athleticism in young girls and fun physical activity.”
A good dozen San Diego Derby Dolls and Jr. Dollinquents accepted the invitation and set the pace for the 1-Mile Run/Walk.
“It was really cool to see the girls asking to be photographed with us,” Marr Bulls said. “But the coolest part was to witness the younger ones hugging the the Dollinquents as they were obviously in awe of them. I’m hoping to be a part of this again next year!”
