Cincy Rolls Past Derby Dolls In Del Mar

San Diego Wildfires Derby Dolls Flat Track

The SD Wildfires are the #1 flat-track team for the SD Derby Dolls, but they ran into some Ohio rollers on Saturday night who were tough to stop. Cincinnati’s Roller Girls established an early lead and used some savvy lead jamming to shut down a San Diego comeback attempt, skating away to a 103-71 victory in front of a raucous and packed crowd at Wyland Hall.

“They had a strong pack up front,” said San Diego co-captain Bo Toxic after the bout, “they were good at breaking up our front line. They got us to play their game a little bit, and we were chasing them.”

Cincinnati captain Sadistic Sadie consistently got out in front of the pack as lead jammer, even when matched up with top SD skaters like Kiki DiAzz, Kung Pow Tina and Lila Monster. Credit should also be given to Cincy skaters Hannah Barbaric and K. Lethal for their blend of power and speed.

San Diego trailed 56-28 at the half and, despite a couple of second half solo jams, they were unable to carve too deeply into the deficit. Their greatest chance for victory seemed to come from simple misinformation, as enthusiastic but totally silly stadium announcers “Jazz” and “Ill Reverend Mike” reversed the score for about 20 minutes on the PA, telling the crowd that the Wildfires were dominating a match they were actually losing by thirty points.

Unfortunately Cincinnati used their basic reading skills to survey the scoreboard, which ended any hopes of a mass confusion forfeiture, essentially ending the Wildfires upset hopes.

The SD Derby Dolls next send out their banked-track team for a bout in LA on November 14th, before returning to Del Mar on the 21st for a flat track bout against Humboldt.
