Blockers for Knockers

The San Diego Derby Dolls participated in the 14th annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk with more than 25,000 others on Oct. 16. The 4-mile walk took people through Balboa Park and onto Hwy 163 where traffic was stopped.

"I'm still pumped up about the walk," said Debbi Pacecca, of the Breast Intentions team. "I'm hearing reports that we recorded the highest attendance ever and early numbers indicate we raised about $800,000 in the fight against breast cancer."

This is an annual community service event for the Derby Dolls. Last year the Dolls stuck it out in the rain. This year the Dolls were able to lace up their skates and make strides of their own through bumpy and broken roads, and up and down steep freeway ramps.

"It's a lot harder to skate it," said On-Ya, who walked in it last year. "But it was worth the sore muscles and strains to show our support."
