To roll out the 2010 season the San Diego Derby Dolls are hosting Arizona Roller Derby on Saturday, Jan. 23 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds for a flat track roller derby bout. The last time these leagues faced each other was in Arizona early in the 2009 season where SDDD’s Wildfires took a landslide win from AZRD’s Tent City Terrors with a score of 185-62. This time both leagues are fielding a “mixed team” – a team that rosters both A team players and B team players.

This weekend Team Awesome, a national all-female all-star roller derby team, is hosting a roller derby training camp in downtown San Diego at the Dollhouse, the San Diego Derby Dolls’ practice space. The training camp will benefit SDDD, San Diego’s premier roller derby league and the nation’s first hybrid league of both banked and flat track roller derby.
