F.A.Q.
What days the Derby Dolls practice?
Practice for new skaters is called Bootcamp. It is held every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 6-7pm.
Derby Doll practice is Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 7-9pm, only Derby Dolls and Level 3 Bootcampers can attend these practices.
How much are dues?
Bootcamp is $5 per session, when you come your first time you will have to pay $55 for USARS Insurance. To offset the cost of this, your first 10 Bootcamp sessions are free, then its $5 per session. When you become a Derby Doll dues are $80 a month.
How long do I have to be in Bootcamp?
How long you spend in Bootcamp is entirely up to you and your skating ability. There are three levels to Bootcamp, and you are tested before progressing to the next level. Someone who has previous skating experience may progress through Bootcamp faster, but its all about the effort you put in. If you are dedicated and come to Boocamp regularly you will find that your skating ability will improve and you will be able to pass through each level quickly.
What is USARS?
USARS is skating insurance that's required to skate at any practice, bout, or event of the Derby Dolls. It provides you with up to $50K in supplementary medical/accident insurance for accidents occurring while on skates during these events. Even if you have medical coverage, you are still required to get USARS for your protection and the protection of other skaters.
How much time do I have to put in to Roller Derby?
Derby Dolls and Bootcampers put in varying amounts of time, its entirely a personal choice. You will see some skaters at every practice, at every event, virtually always on skates. Other Derby Dolls balance a busy schedule and Roller Derby, coming on certain days and to certain events. The more time and effort you put into Derby the more you will grow as a skater, so take that into consideration when first joining. At a minimum, a Derby Doll must attend at least 8 practices a month to count as full-attendance and to be eligible to play in bouts.
